An SW3 file is a configuration file created by TAL Technologies WinWedge, a program used to collect data from RS232 instruments and automatically import it in other programs. It contains the configuration settings to connect to the RS232 instrument it is collecting data from, such as a sensor or scanner, and the application it is feeding the data to, such as Microsoft Excel or Access.

SW3 files are the primary file type associated with WinWedge. When you create the configuration, you can save it and reuse it instead of having to create the configuration from scratch again. To create an SW3 file in WinWedge, select File → New, adjust the configuration, then select File → Save or Save As.... To open an SW3 file in WinWedge, select File → Open.... You can also double-click the file if you have WinWedge already installed on your computer. This method automatically opens WinWedge and loads the configuration. NOTE: WinWedge can collect data from a variety of serial devices, including Ion meters, GPS receivers, gauges, spectrometers, conductivity meters, pH meters, and thermocouples.
