A QB2016 file is a data file created by the 2016 version of QuickBooks for Mac, a financial management application. It contains company financial data, which includes employee profiles, payroll information, and customer data. QB2016 file can be used to generate invoices, financial reports, tax forms, and more.

If your computer crashes or files become corrupt you can restore your QB2016 company file. When QuickBooks backs up your data, it creates a .DMG file that includes a copy of your QB2016 file and Attached Documents Library folder. To restore your QB2016 company file from a backup: Go to your backed up disk image and double-click the icon in order to mount it. Drag the QB2016 file wherever you want it located. Put the Attached Documents Library folder in the same location as the QB2016 file as well. Open your company file, select QuickBooks → Preferences and choose Attachments. NOTE: Previous versions of QuickBooks for Mac use the extensions .QB2015, .QB2014, .QB2013, etc. These files are known as legacy files in the QuickBooks 2016 release.
