An H5M file is a map used by Heroes of Might and Magic V, the fifth installment of the turn-based strategy game series. It contains game map files compressed together as an archive with Zip compression. H5M files are compressed .ZIP files but renamed with the ".h5m" extension for organizational purposes.

Heroes of Might and Magic 5 maps allow you to alter playable maps in the game. The extension became popular in 2006 as users started to give their custom maps the ".h5m" extension for clarification purposes. H5M files are located in the "Maps" folder of the Heroes of Might and Magic 5 installation directory. You can unpack the H5M file by renaming the ".h5m" extension to ".zip", then extracting the contents with a Zip decompression program, such as WinZip or WinRAR. NOTE: Heroes of Might and Magic was originally developed by Jon Van Caneghem of New World Computing. The series is now owned by Ubisoft.
