A CAD file is a CAD file created by Autodesk QuickCAD, a CAD 2D vector drawing program that was discontinued in 2004. It contains a technical 2D drawing, which includes geometry and measurement information. CAD files are often used for storing floorplan layouts and mechanical designs.

QuickCAD CAD files are only supported by QuickCAD. In order to open them in another program, the files must be converted to a more widely supported format, such as the AutoCAD Drawing .DWG format or Drawing Exchange .DXF format. Unfortunately, the only program able to convert QuickCAD CAD files is Autodesk QuickCAD, which is no longer developed. NOTE: Autodesk QuickCAD was originally Softdesk Drafix Quick CAD in the 1990s. But when Softdesk was acquired by Autodesk, Drafix Quick CAD was repackaged as Autodesk QuickCAD, which was developed until version 8 in 2004.
