DPlot is primarily used by scientists, engineers, and other technical professionals. The graphs are often included in presentations and scientific journal articles. NOTE: GRF files can be viewed with the free DPlot Viewer.

The original version of GRF files supported simple sprites. However, the new open source variants of Transport Tycoon, including OpenTTD and TTDPatch, support new graphics data in GRF files. OpenTTD's new format, called NewGRF, can include data for vehicles, cargo, buildings, railroad types, and industries. OpenTTD provides GRF game packages, which are downloadable NewGRF files that can be applied to the game to display custom graphics and to alter game properties.
