A DEVICEMETADATA-MS file is a package used by the Windows operating system (OS). It contains .XML files that store metadata about a physical device connected to Windows, such as a printer, mouse, flash drive, or keyboard. DEVICEMETADATA-MS files may also include an .ICO file, which is the icon of the device.

DEVICEMETADATA-MS files were introduced in Windows 7. The packages are compressed cabinet files and are named with globally unique identifiers (GUIDs) to distinguish each device. You most likely will never come across a DEVICEMETADATA-MS file. However, you most likely have seen the information stored in the file.
