A BACKUP file contains a backup created by various Android phones and tablets. It stores user information, such as contacts and user files and is useful for archiving save points from your mobile device so that the data can be restored if there becomes a problem with the device.

BACKUP files are created through the advanced startup mode when pressing and holding the power button and volume button and then choosing the option to backup user information. When the backup is complete, the BACKUP files are saved to the Android device's SD card. You will most likely only encounter an Android BACKUP file on the SD card of the Android device. Therefore, if you discover a BACKUP file on your computer it was most likely created by a program on your computer. NOTE: To restore a BACKUP file, hold the power button and volume button and choose the option to restore user information from the startup menu.
